Weight Room Transformation!

If you have walked into the weight room in the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed that it is a bit of a mess right now. No need to worry; this is not due to a Tik Tok trend or other misbehavior. It is the brainchild of Mr. Wolfe, Mr. Tarleton, and Ms. Smith, who have come together in an effort to recreate the weight room into a “Brain Fit'' Room.

The idea of a Brain Fit room was originally the idea of a colleague of Mr. Wolfe’s at Hartland Elementary School, where the two of them turned an old classroom into a Brain Fit room for kids. Wolfe describes the room as a “release valve for students.” A Brain Fit room is where students who need a break from class can get some supervised exercise that will help them refocus on their schoolwork. This idea was such a big success in Hartland that Wolfe’s colleague made the same room type at Hartford High School.

“I was able to see how to transform a space and how it could positively impact students who needed a break from the classroom,” Wolfe said about the space in Hartland.

This year, those ideas got put into motion. The varsity baseball team, coached by Mr. Tarleton, helped move in the new equipment and set it up in the room. Tarleton also painted the room.

The plan is to have fewer machines and more open space for people of all abilities to use. If the room is a success, the old woodworking studio will be transformed into a Brain Fit room as well.

In addition, the space will be used for sports team workouts and such, but the goal is to make the area accessible for all.

“With more open space and fewer machines, the new space will be more inviting to all students in the building,” said Mr. Wolfe.

This is the goal. With a more inviting environment and a new purpose as an outlet for students needing a break, Wolfe, Tarleton, and Smith hope to promote exercise and wellness for all.
