The Person Behind Woodstock Sports
Jack Boymer is in his second year here at Woodstock Union High School Middle School as the athletic director. He is the person behind it all. His job focuses on scheduling games, getting officials, managing buses and events.
He has been working in this field since 2012, “in that time I’ve worn a lot of hats,” he says. He mentioned that he has worked at the college level and at the youth level. “My favorite part is getting to know students and seeing them grow as the season progresses,” he says.
This year when JV girls basketball was in need of a coach, Jack stepped up and took the position for the first few weeks of the season until he was able to find a coach.
He also discussed the difference between the winter season to the spring season. “In the winter there’s more late nights and the season is longer,” Jack says. The spring season is shorter and the nights aren’t as late.
Covid has affected sports for the past two years. For all of last year and some of this year many teams had to wear masks in order to participate. For basketball season this year students had to wear masks during practice and games. There was also a limit to who could attend games outside of the school community.
Now a lot has changed, masks have come off in school and there are officially no Covid regulations for sports. “It’s definitely challenging for everyone but we’ve all done the best that we can,” Jack says about the previous Covid restrictions.
“We have a lot of solid teams, numbers are good and there are a lot of students playing sports this year,” Jack says. This year there are 290 students participating in a sport, where in the previous year there were 259. Many teams had their season opener the week of April 18-22. Both softball and baseball won their season openers, but boys and girls lacrosse lost their first games.
Best of luck to all Woodstock teams this year! To find out when to come support Woodstock Sports check out this schedule.
