Learning Around the World

Sumanth Krishna is the new teacher in the Innovation Studio. He originally comes from Bangalore, India where he got his undergraduate degree in Architecture. He then came to the United States and went to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where he got his Masters Degree in Architecture.

While he was at RISD, he taught Architecture History. It was during this time that he got the “teaching bug” and decided to continue teaching.

Sumanth works for NuVu which is a program that allows students to help solve real world problems as well as have hands-on experience using different machines. NuVu needs teachers who know how to use the tools like the 3D printer and that is something Sumanth brings to the table.

“Woodstock being a middle school and high school is a great opportunity to teach more grades that other schools don’t offer,” he said. He enjoys teaching the different grades and helping students with their projects.

He finds the most challenging part is making sure that each student gets the most out of the class. The most rewarding part is when he sees the “aha” moment in students. Sumanth also says he loves “seeing the project manifest and all of the students' hard work come together.”

He is excited to start exploring the U.S. and working in Woodstock has allowed him to see more of the North East. “Woodstock has been really welcoming to me not just as a school but as a town too,” Sumanth says, noting he hopes to be working here for years to come.
