Importance of Exercise

Many people today are either too busy for exercise or just aren’t motivated enough to do it. Having a good amount of exercise can be good for your health and body, but it can also improve your mood and mental health in general. Knowing you have a healthy and fit body can boost your overall confidence.

“Psychological and physical benefits of exercise can also help improve mood and reduce anxiety,” according to the Mayo Clinic website. The Mayo Clinic has done many studies on how and why exercise is important, especially for mental health. In today’s world, numerous people experience high levels of anxiety just because of how stressful life can be. Exercising can help by taking your mind off of your life and putting your mind and body to work.

Even if you can’t fit in 60 minutes of exercise a day like you want to, that’s okay. “Doing 30 minutes or more of exercise a day for three to five days a week may significantly improve depression or anxiety symptoms. But smaller amounts of physical activity — as little as 10 to 15 minutes at a time — may make a difference,” says the Mayo Clinic staff in their article “Depression and Anxiety: Exercise Eases Symptoms.” Setting appropriate goals is very important for a healthy workout. Trying to go from no exercise to hours a day isn’t realistic.

Starting a daily workout routine can be a difficult task, so take it slow. Starting with 15 minutes every other day can be a great start to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Then after you feel comfortable with the 15 minutes of exercise, you can slowly move up to 30, 45, etc. Remembering that you don’t have to do it all at once is key to having a good exercise routine.

“Exercise may also help keep depression and anxiety from coming back once you're feeling better,” says the Mayo Clinic staff. As a lot of teenagers especially are riddled with depression nowadays, exercising to keep depression away is incredibly important. Exercising is very rewarding if you do it even once. The feeling you get after exercising can be amazing for your mental health. Knowing that you are burning calories and staying in shape or trying to be in shape is great.

Being mentally and physically healthy, as well as staying in shape, is amazing for everyone and to achieve this, you need to exercise. The Mayo Clinic always has reliable information on everything you need to know about staying healthy. You can find them and read more here: The Mayo Clinic
