Girls Soccer Socks the Competition 3-1
Girls soccer has done it again! The Woodstock Girls Soccer team has managed to come through with a win solidifying their reputation as one of Vermont's top Division 2 teams. The game which took place November 3 at Woodstock Union High School ended Harwood’s winning streak indefinitely.
With the rest of the school cheering them on, the girls team won by two points: one scored by senior Hannah Reed and 2 from sophomore Chloe Masillo.
As the game commenced, the girls team started off the first half with 2 points. The first goal scored by senior Hannah Reed was “one of the most impressive shots all season” according to one viewer. Then followed by a goal from sophomore Chloe Masillo, the Wasps took the lead with little interference from the Harwood team.
Unfortunately towards the end of the first half, Harwood bypassed Woodstock's impressive defense to score their only goal for the entirety of the game. With due diligence, the Wasps pulled ahead with another shot from Masillo 20 minutes from the end of the game. And thanks to a strong defensive initiative and great support from the offensive line, Woodstock took home the win and are now headed from the Finals against Rice Academy on Saturday, November 6 in South Burlington.
This was a massive loss for Harwood who apparently expected an easy victory over the girls this week. Ironically enough the Harwood athletic department took to facebook yesterday to promote this idea stating : “A huge shout out to our Eagles Girls Soccer squad who will look to upset yet another team in the D2 playoffs this year”. In response Woodstock only has one thing to say: Better luck next year ladies.
