Cranberry Chicken
On November 16, 2021, the first chick cracked its shell in the horticulture room. Sadly, the other six did not hatch.
Catherine Austin chose this as her semester long project in Agriculture. She has been studying the chick's growth since it was an egg. The eggs were donated by Tina Tuckerman from One Chick at a Time Farm.
“I always loved animals. I thought it would be fun to have chicks and watch them grow and develop,” said Catherine of her project. “ Later on we will be able to tell if it’s a boy or girl,” Catherine added. For now it’s name is Cranberry. Once the semester is over, the chick will be moved to Diamond Pine Farm in Castleton, Vermont.
However, Cranberry wasn’t the first chicken in the greenhouse but she will probably be the last. There used to be two other hens. They would stay in the green house with the bunny, Thumper, but the school decided since they have been here for the majority of the year so far, they should leave. So the only animal in the school at this point is Cranberry.
