Community Service in Action

Freshman Parker Pierce took action on the recent vandalism that took place in the boys bathroom across from Mr. Wolf’s classroom (room 19). And this wasn’t his first time. “My first reaction was, the janitors have so much to do and everyone uses it,” Parker says. He mentioned that the number of janitors don’t comply with the size of the school and they have to take hours cleaning bathrooms. “It’s a pain for the janitors to clean the bathroom and see the destruction.” So Parker decided to help; he had already cleaned up the bathroom before, after a previous incident of vandalism. The cleaning Parker did for the last bathroom incident involved taking trash out of the urinals and picking up the trash that had been dumped in the stalls. “ I kept my hands safe with paper towels and washed my hands really well afterwards,” he said. Parker is also a houseman at the Woodstock Inn and he said it almost felt like second nature to help. “It’s just horrible and people go in there and do stuff they can’t do anywhere else and it doesn’t just affect them, it affects everybody,” Parker said. People also have to walk further if a bathroom gets closed, like walking from one end of the school to the other. “It’s just really disrespectful, not just to the people around you but it’s disrespectful to the people having to clean up the mess. It’s just pure ignorance,” Parker emphasized.
