A.R.E You Serious Woodstock?

2022 has been an eventful year for everyone. From the death of Betty White to the aggressive political climate in Russia, students have had a lot to think about. In its short time 2022 has been incredibly confusing, but that didn’t stop the Woodstock High School Administration from changing the schedule just a week before break.

The school announced 2 weeks ago that students would be starting a new schedule with a focus on the reduction of unscheduled time during the school day. The original schedule has been discarded as of February 9th. The new schedule reduced class times on Wednesdays to 80 minute blocks with a new extended A.R.E time taking place after 1st block. And needless to say students are not impressed.

“The only thing consistent about our scheduling is the fact that it's inconsistent,” says one student who has asked to be left anonymous. This claim is not without merit. Since 2018 there has not been a consistent schedule for Woodstock students to follow, with a new plan for class blocks and times each year.

Seniors will remember when we used to have green and white blocks which were considered “the most effective schedule since we’ve been here” according to Evan Joaquin. Green and White day schedules were thought by many to be easier to navigate as classes were every other day not arranged differently based on alternating block schedules.

Administrators have argued that the new schedule will be beneficial to students by reducing 90 minute classes to 80 minutes as they cause students to lose focus. However, to many students this is rubbish. “10 minutes does absolutely nothing for the attention span of a bunch of high school students…the new schedule is too structured” said Freshman Alexandra Carnehammar.

Students are once again unimpressed with the faculty’s structuring of our time and who could blame them ?
