Little School vs Big School Remote Learning

Every school is different when it comes to E-Learning. This can be seen in a comparison between Black River High School Middle School and our school, Woodstock Union High School Middle School.

“I wake up at 8:00, make coffee and breakfast and go to my first class at 8:30,” Karissa Trzesiara, a Black River Sophomore says The typical Black River schedule starts at 8:00 with the person getting up and getting ready for their first zoom call of the day. “None of them (zoom calls) are optional unless the teacher gives us a working day,” she explains.

”They (zoom calls) start at 8:30 and are every 30 minutes till 12:00. They are mandatory but if you can’t join a call for technical reasons, you can email your teacher,” Olivia (Oli) Lee a Freshman at Black River High School says. The schedule is the same each school day.

For the Woodstock students it seems different, “I usually get up around 8:00 in the morning… I have five zoom calls on Monday.. And do about 5-6 hours of homework a day. 7-8 if I have a Summative,” WUHS Junior Caleb Palazzo told us. Although, some kids like Caleb go to every zoom call it is not mandatory for Woodstock kids to join the calls. It is advised that you come or meet up with the teacher afterwards to go over what was missed.

“I literally spend all day doing homework so probably around 8 hours,” Nora Duane a Sophomore, says.Sixty percent of Woodstock Students interviewed said they worked about 6-8 hours a day on school work.

This is very different from Karissa Trezesiara’s experience at Black River, “ I spend like 4 hours,” she concluded about her amount of work.

Chances are if you look at two or even seven more schools you will see that their approach is different from these schools. E-Learning was not planned. Nobody was expecting it, but either way all the teachers, all the schools, are doing very well at adapting to this change.
