Teachers on E-Learning

The E-Learning system is new to all of us. Most teachers included.

However, English teacher Ms. Sullivan-Justice (Ms.SJ) is not new to this online approach at learning. She had prior knowledge of how to control and adapt to the online work style. “It felt very different from this (our online schooling) cause it was supposed to be online,” she said about the Online Course she used to teach.

About five years ago she taught an American Literature class online. She said that she really liked the course and was happy to know that everyone was really engaged even if it felt very different from the ‘regular classes’ we are used to.

The E-Learning class structures here are all different. Although, many teachers, including Ms.Sullivan-Justice, have tried to make the new environment sort of the same as classes on campus. She has made her students create videos explaining topics that would usually be discussed in class. She has created a weekly reading and questions to go along with the chapters.

The E-Learning versus learning in face-to-face is different.“It always just felt very formal or something like ‘dear Kaity I really like what you wrote about blah, blah, blah instead of it feeling like a normal conversation,” Ms. Sullivan-Justice said.

“I think introverts will find this (E-Learning) a little bit helpful to be able to think about what they say before they say it,” she said. For the people who tend to talk a lot in class and would self identify as extroverts, she believes this will be harder than for those who enjoy being more loners since she is not only giving video assignments.

Although, the experience is different for everyone and everyone is going about this in a different way, we, as a school, will get through it together.

"(I’m) really happy to be part of this community," Ms.S-J concluded.
