Coronavirus Care Package #2
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the Buzz will be posting a Coronavirus Care Package. Our goal is to give you things to distract from the daily deluge of bad news and confusion. Think of these posts as a daily respite from COVID-19.
An Uplifting Song to Define our Situation
We have recently learned that our in-person school experience has been suspended for the rest of the Academic Year. This has caused a lot of distress among the students at WUHS. We are all wondering when we’ll get to hug our friends, walk down our school’s musky hallways, or annoy Ms. Piccoli again. It can feel kind of like we’re in a strange suspended period where we’re not sure what to do. Should I think of this as normal? Should I start to develop routines? Is it still safe to lick doorknobs? I don’t have answers to any of these questions, but Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting in Limbo” provides us with at least some comfort. In this down-tempo ska bop, we are lulled into a tranquil lethargy. He teaches us to be content with this transition period and have faith that it is all for the better, because what else can we really do, but hope for the best from our couches or desks at home?
Instagram Ingenuity
Among the many traditions that this year’s senior class might miss out on, the Wall of Rejection is one of the most time-honored traditions that I personally was dreading losing. But, due to the interweb genius of senior Magnolia Rice, we have wuhs_senior_spotlight. This Instagram account is dedicated to the seniors at Woodstock where rejection letters, rants, and heartfelt notes can be placed from members of the class whose high school career started with the controversial election of President Donald Trump and is ending with a global pandemic. The bio of this page says it all: “For the class of 2020. We had that vision, but even we couldn’t see this coming”.
