Sailing Through September
Running around and climbing on the backs of fellow students isn't usually allowed let alone welcomed at school, but that was exactly what students were doing during the Best Thursday Assembly on September 26th.
All students attended this assembly where there were raffles, music, activities, and special awards for students. As this is the first Best Thursday of the year the seniors get to walk in, in front of the whole school, to honor their last year. There were a couple kudos given out to outstanding students and young writers.
Awards included the responsibility award to Nick Lenihan, and the engagement award to Jack Rasmussen. English I students that will have their 100 word Survival Sagas published in the New England Young Writers Collection include: Hannah Lockhart, Gordon Twig-Smith, Sophie Noel, Maria Sell, Anya Olmstead, Jackson Martsolf-Tan, Yeheva Weir, Kaity Wade, Hayley DeCoff, and Emma Tartleton.
The Jazz/Funk Band played music while students entered the gymnasium and for a few minutes while everyone was finding a seat. Student Council went through announcements for clubs, SOS, and sports.
The team captains and people involved with clubs or SOS were invited to go up and speak about what they are doing. This is a great way for the new freshman class to get some idea of what is offered outside of academics.
In between each part of the assembly they would choose a name, from all of the students in the school ,and that student would win some candy and a small toy of some sort.
At the end of the assembly, students were invited down to the floor to play ships and sailors. Many students went down and enjoyed playing with their upper and lower classmen.
