Earthbeat Sends Representatives to Sustainability Conference
On October 4th, Earthbeat club sent three representatives to Shelburne Farms for a conference focused on sustainability. Professionals from around Vermont led the numerous attending high schools in discussions about sustainability.
Though the conference lasted less than a day, the club members had a chance to look at a variety of goals concerning sustainability, whether climate, education, social justice, or resource related. They made goals and action plans for their upcoming projects. In fact, they made a plan to begin construction on the upcoming Monday on a waste-sorting station for the cafeteria.
Erica Kurash, one of the representatives and an active member of Earthbeat, says that “Eathbeat is full of super energized students ready to make change this year.” The members created goals that were reachable and specific to our school, discussing the possibilities of a long-term mission statement.
“I am hopeful we can make many positive changes in our school,” Kurash says, “with the support of the new unified board, the district wide buildings and grounds person, the HS buildings and grounds as well as students and staff.”
