Yoh Theatre to Perform Eurydice
School has only been in session for a few brief weeks, but the Yoh Theatre program, directed by Ms. Bender, is already in full swing. With a cast of only seven characters, the Eurydice players can take time dive deeply into their roles, while teams of students are also working hard on lighting, sound, props, costumes and makeup.
Eurydice follows the titular character, a young woman named Eurydice (played by freshman Nina Borzekowski), as she navigates love, death, and the Underworld. While Eurydice is in the Underworld, her husband, Orpheus (played by sophomore Finn Powers), is trying to find a way to bring her back from the Underworld. With only five other actors in the play, the theatre director, Ms. Bender, was tasked with finding new ways to include all of the students who wanted to be involved. She did this by forming new roles to help with the play which she has never used before.
Yoh theatre now has teams of people working on lights, sounds, props, and even costumes and makeup. With these different teams, the upcoming performance of Eurydice will contain a great deal of student-produced work. The rehearsal process began by reading through the script and finding suggestions from the author for each part of tech and costume; the students then collaborated combine all aspects and create a finished product under Ms. Bender’s instruction.
Eurydice will be presented on Friday October 19th and Saturday 20th at 7pm, and Sunday October 21st at 3pm.
