Ms. Perkins and Ms. Fountain's AP Literature and Language Students traveled to the Hopkins Center for the Arts on March 2nd to see Qyrq Qyz (Forty Girls). The performance encompasses a medley of music by Kazakhstan artists that complements footage from 40 Days of Silence, a film by Saodat Ismailova, an Uzbek filmmaker. The performance of film, poetry, music, and visual scenes tells the story of 40 girls who fought in the steppes of Central Asia to defend their ancient clans from invaders from the East. The cast of the performance came to WUHS on Monday, February 26th to give students a brief introduction to the unique cultural instruments used in the performance. Check out the photos above!
